Fluid Engineering Laboratory

The Fluid Engineering Laboratory is prepared to conduct experiments involving measurements of quantities relevant to the study of fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer problems, such as velocity, pressure, temperature, concentration and heat flow. It specializes in using optical methods to visualize and measure single-phase and two-phase flows. Advanced optical techniques such as two-dimensional Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), as well as three-dimensional stereoscopic, tomographic and holographic versions are developed and applied. High-frequency PIV and laser-induced fluorescence measurements are also carried out, as well as Laser-Doppler velocimetry and hot wire/film anemometry techniques. The laboratory also develops specialized routines for the digital processing of flow images.
