Desenvolvimento de modelos matemáticos para
análises uni, bi e tridimensionais de estruturas por meio de métodos numéricos,
incluindo o método dos elementos finitos. Desenvolvimento de técnicas e
procedimentos sobre o projeto mecânico, enfocando análise teórica, numérica e
experimental de tensões, fadiga, fluência, mecânica da fratura, comportamento
mecânico dos materiais, ensaios destrutivos e não destrutivos, análise
estrutural e histórico de falha. Monitoramento de integridade estrutural.

Modelagem do comportamento dinâmico de sistemas
mecânicos e mecatrônicos incluindo elementos rígidos ou deformáveis. Sistemas
de corpos rígidos e rígidos-elásticos, incluindo efeitos do atrito, histerese e
impactos. Análise estocástica de processos. Controle de sistemas mecatrônicos,
hidráulicos e pneumáticos, incluindo robótica móvel e de manipuladores. Desenvolvimento

Linha de Pesquisa: Engenharia de Dutos
Com um enfoque aplicado, e procurando antecipar as futuras
necessidades da indústria, esta linha de pesquisa multidisciplinar está
voltada para a solução de problemas relevantes para o segmento de
transporte dutoviário da cadeia de produção e distribuição de petróleo e
gás natural. Alguns dos tópicos abordados são: integridade estrutural,
análise de risco, inspeção baseada em risco, análise estrutural de dutos
submarinos, sensoriamento e instrumentação, pigs instrumentados,
simulação termo-hidráulica de escoamento e garantia de escoamento.

Linha de Pesquisa: Engenharia de Petróleo
Esta linha de pesquisa é voltada para problemas de interesse no
segmento de Exploração e Produção (E&P) da cadeia do petróleo e gás
natural. São desenvolvidos trabalhos de pesquisa relacionados com
engenharia de reservatório, perfuração, engenharia de poço ou engenharia
de produção. Entre os temas de pesquisa nesta linha pode-se citar o
sensoriamento a fibra óptica para a monitoração permanente de fundo do
poço, completação inteligente, campos inteligentes, reologia de fluidos
não convencionais de interesse no segmento de E&P, escoamento
multifásico, escoamento de fluidos no processo de perfuração, escoamento
em meios porosos, escoamento de emulsões e modelagem de reservatórios.

Linha de Pesquisa: Sistemas Energéticos
Esta linha de pesquisa está direcionada para o estudo do
aproveitamento racional de fontes de energia, considerando-se aspectos
termodinâmicos, econômicos e ambientais. Alguns dos temas em
desenvolvimento são a conversão de motores diesel para o consumo de gás
natural, cogeração e geração alternativa, células de combustível para
geração de energia elétrica e cogeração, bem como a regulamentação do
mercado do setor de gás natural no País.

Linha de Pesquisa: Engenharia de Fluidos
Esta linha de pesquisa engloba as atividades experimentais e de
simulação computacional voltadas para o estudo de problemas de caráter
fundamental e aplicado envolvendo o escoamento de fluidos. São feitas
simulações numéricas de uma gama variada de escoamentos utilizando
técnicas de volumes e elementos finitos, com aplicações desde
escoamentos a baixo número de Reynolds com superfícies livres até
escoamentos turbulentos a altos números Reynolds e escoamentos
bifásicos. Trabalha-se também no desenvolvimento de modelos de
turbulência e de métodos computacionais eficientes e robustos. Outra
linha de atuação está voltada para o estudo do comportamento reológico
de materiais, tanto a nível teórico, como numérico e experimental,
analisando-se materiais não convencionais, como os fluidos
viscoplásticos e viscoelásticos. Nesta linha também são realizadas
pesquisas experimentais e numéricas na área de poluição atmosférica,
envolvendo dispersão de poluentes particulados (aerossóis) e gasosos.
São desenvolvidas e aplicadas técnicas avançadas para a medição de
escoamentos de fluidos, como velocimetria de fio quente, laser-Doppler e
técnicas ópticas utilizando processamento de imagens digitais de
escoamentos.
Linha de Pesquisa: Máquinas Térmicas
O desenvolvimento de modelos de simulação e ensaios experimentais de
sistemas de aquecimento, refrigeração, ar condicionado e componentes é
conduzido nesta linha de pesquisa. Ênfase tem sido dada ao estudo de
novos refrigerantes, misturas não azeotrópicas, hidrocarbonetos e ar,
bem como ao desenvolvimento de trocadores de calor de melhor desempenho.
A termoacumulação aplicada a sistemas de refrigeração ou aquecimento
também é um tema investigado, com foco em sistemas que envolvem mudança
de fase, como por exemplo, materiais encapsulados ou pasta de gelo. No
Laboratório de Engenharia Veicular – LEV são conduzidos estudos
relacionados à avaliação de combustíveis e ao desempenho de motores.

Linha de Pesquisa: Transferência de Calor e Massa
Nesta linha de pesquisa são realizados estudos teóricos, numéricos e
experimentais englobando os aspectos fundamentais e aplicados de
problemas envolvendo transferência de calor e massa. Estudos numéricos
sobre modelos de combustão e suas aplicações a problemas industriais são
também abordados nesta linha de pesquisa. Estes estudos são
complementados por técnicas avançadas de diagnóstico a laser da
combustão.
